Wm. Roger McPherson
1946 – 2022

Roger McPherson founded Tengam in 1972, after developing and engineering a convergence-ring magnet for the television industry. It was molded along with a part produced by McPherson Plastics, a family-run plastics business. Roger improved the manufacturing process and met the challenge of producing an industry first: injection-molded magnets. This leading innovation had a strong impact in the marketplace and the magnet industry. Roger was quick to start developing better ways to produce parts using complex materials and innovative molding process techniques. For over 40 years, Roger continued to expand and improve upon his original manufacturing advancements and watched over Tengam’s steady growth.

Mark W. McPherson
President

Mark is a third-generation family business owner/operator who, as a child, watched an industry develop and has now been directly involved in it for 30+ years. He is involved in day-to-day operations including: advanced engineering projects; magnet, magnetizing, and magnetizer design; magnetic compound formulation; injection molds and molding for soft and hard magnetic compounds, powdered metals, base polymers and engineered thermoplastics; injection-mold tooling and assembly design; automation concepts and planning; equipment sourcing and planning; quality control and implementation of ISO 9001 and TS 16949; sales and marketing; finance; human resources; business management and planning; construction planning and coordination; and will also take out garbage or mow the lawn when needed. Mark attended KVCC for general education, Western Michigan University for Music Education and Business Management, and Davenport College for Business Management. He is a Christian, father, son, and employer who loves God, his family and his employees. Since 2008, Stacey has helped ensure that Tengam’s daily business operations run smoothly. In addition to her controller and human-resources responsibilities, she excels as the company therapist and official shoe consultant. Stacey is a CPA and holds an MBA from Western Michigan University.  When not at work, she is busy mom and is an avid cyclist.

Andrew Hirzel
Senior Engineer

Andy is deeply involved in magnet FEA design, testing, manufacturing processing, quality control, and magnetization.  Applications he has successfully undertaken have ranged from single-particle magnetization analysis to 500 kW 1000 Hz synchronous motors. His theoretical understanding (Maxwell’s equations, anyone?) combined with practical factory experience provide a great fit for Tengam’s team. You will find that every subject related to magnetics is interesting to Andy, no matter the detail.

Andy graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s in industrial & operational engineering: a background that, like most magnet people, was not specifically in the field. He has wide-ranging experience in manufacturing, but after he drifted over to the domain of magnetics, he has never quite broken free of that fundamental attractive force.

When not looking for magnet flux, Andy stays plenty busy with his wife and daughters.  Andy is also prone to running nearly any distance, with any fellow runner. Stop by with your running shoes on, anytime.
